Salary: up to R1.6M per annum
Location: Cape Town or Johannesburg – Hybrid
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will take ownership of this high-impact system, ensuring technical excellence and innovation across its lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with data science and product teams to translate business needs into robust, scalable, and efficient data-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Optimise the design and performance of the Product Recommender platform in collaboration with the Lead Data Scientist
- Oversee daily platform operations and ensure stability and scalability
- Translate product and business requirements into actionable technical tasks with cross-functional teams
- Contribute to Sprint planning, prioritisation, and delivery
- Coordinate technical team efforts to achieve Sprint goals and milestones
- Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
- Uphold best practices through code reviews, sprint evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related STEM field
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in machine learning engineering or data science in a commercial environment
- Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, data science principles, and system design
- Proficiency in Python and its ML ecosystem, with experience handling large datasets using PySpark and relational databases
- Solid grasp of application architectures, design patterns, and MLOps best practices
- Experience with cloud-hosted ML solutions and DevOps tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong command of Azure Cloud services and Git-based version control
- Experience working in Agile environments and communicating effectively with technical and business stakeholders
