Salary: up to R750 000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Johannesburg – Hybrid
Role Overview:
The successful candidate will design and deliver intelligent data products that uncover insights from large and complex datasets. You’ll play a key role in transforming how the business approaches underwriting, claims management, and performance optimisation through advanced analytics and automation.
What you’ll do:
- Design and implement scalable data infrastructure using Azure Data Factory and Synapse Analytics
- Develop and operationalise high-impact predictive models (e.g., claims prediction, risk scoring) using Python or R
- Enhance business intelligence capabilities through interactive Power BI dashboards
- Integrate data science models into core business workflows to deliver measurable commercial value
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, correlations, and actionable insights
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders such as actuaries, underwriters, and data engineers
- Automate recurring analytical processes and ensure reliability of data pipelines
What you’ll have:
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics)
- 4+ years of professional experience in data science or business intelligence
- Proven experience deploying machine learning models in a production environment
- Strong knowledge of statistical analysis, data modelling, and experimental design
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Technical Environment:
- Power BI – Data visualisation and reporting
- Azure Data Factory & Synapse Analytics – ETL/ELT pipelines
- T-SQL, MS SQL Server – Database management
- Python, R – Statistical analysis and machine learning
- scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch – Machine learning frameworks
